A Little Something About 1987 Topps

Before I start opening my rack packs I purchased, I thought I'd share a little about the 1987 Topps set. It includes 792 standard size cards (3.5 inches × 2.5 inches) and was released in one series. The player cards feature the team logo in the upper left hand corner with the player name in a rectangle box just off-center to the right at the bottom. The wood grain borders paid homage to the 1962 Topps design.

Subsets included in the base set include '86 Record Breaker (RB, #1-#7), 1986 Team Leaders (TL, throughout set), All-Star Rookie (ASR, throughout set), Future Stars (FS, throughout set), Turn Back the Clock (TBC, #311-#315), All-Star/League Leader (AS, LL, #595-#616). The set also included manager cards with team checklist featured on the back.
It also included a few insert sets, Glossy All-Stars (inserted 1 per rack pack), Glossy Rookies (inserted 1 per Jumbo pack), and Wax Box Cards (individual cards from the 2-card panels cut from the side of the wax pack boxes).

Topps also produced a parallel set, Tiffany, which was distributed as a factory set with the cards having a glossy finish. It was reported there were 30,000 of these sets produced.

There was also one mail-in set, 1987 All-Star Set Collector’s Edition (Glossy Send-Ins).

Stay tuned for the first rack pack!
